May Wrap Up

Hello there! How time flies, huh? It’s already the last day of May which means half of the year is nearly over. I can’t believe I’ve already been blogging for five months. Well, scratch that. The past month I haven’t really been ‘blogging’. There were so many things going on in my life that I hardly found time to read, nor review the books I actually did finish. I also went to my very first comic con and it was absolutely amazing. I’m hooked! Can’t wait for next year where I’ll definitely go again. I’m still planning on writing about that experience, although it’s already 3 weeks in the past.

There are also a lot of books that I haven’t reviewed yet, but I hope that those will be up in the next month. Oh and I achieved my first reading goal for 2016! I read 10 (well now 11) fantasy books for the Flights of Fantasy challenge! So yeah, there are a lot of posts planned for June and I hope I’ll actually be able to write them all. Also, I’m thinking about asking you guys (and other newbies) to help me prepare some posts for July/August because I’m going on my big UK tour and would love to keep my blog going. I’m thinking about something like guest posts. Have you ever let someone guest post on your blog or did you yourself write anything for other blogs? Do you have any tips for me regarding this? Would be highly appreciated!

NEWS AROUND THE BLOG

‣ I finally did it! I designed my very own first Blog Header. It doesn't really look professional, but for the moment I quite like it and it will stay up there at the top of my blog until I find time (and the talent) to design a better header (which probably won't happen in the next few months). It's actually quite embarrasing how long it took me to edit that, which is why I will keep it a secret.

‣ I also made some changes to my side bar and finally designed my own 'Follow Me' Buttons for my social media, which I'm quite proud of because I had no idea how to do it and had to google it for a long time until I found some helpful tutorials.

‣ And the third change I did was to add the 'You Might Also Like...' widget to my blog posts on the Home page. I hope it isn't too annoying and that it will give new readers other posts to check out.

Lovely Letters ♡ My First Pen Pal Experience

Hey there guys! I'm so excited about today's topic for this blog post. So in March I signed up for a really awesome pen pal program. It’s called Lovely Letters and is hosted by the lovely Claudia at My Soul Called Life. I got the pleasure of getting to know her better for the past two months and I really enjoyed exchanging e-mails with her. So first off, let’s start with the most important question for this whole post, shall we?

What is Lovely Letters Snail Mail?

Lovely Letters is a Snail Mail Exchange Program focused on building new relationships by sending Lovely Letters and packages all across the globe, one new friend at a time. We are bloggers who love connecting through the love of sending and receiving snail mail. This project promotes encouragement, collaboration, friendship, and growth as individuals and as a blogging community. For more information on how you can participate, click here!

Naturally, when I discovered this I had to sign up immediately. Which was such a great decision. I really had a great time and I will definitely sign up for this pen pal pairing again in the future, but sadly not right away because I will be away over the summer and won't have any time to send any parcels anywhere. But who knows, maybe in August I'll be able to join again!

CLAUDIA'S SUPREME PARCEL SURPRISE

I really enjoyed getting to know Claudia better. She's an awesome person and I've been following her blog since I started this blog and joined the 2016 Dystopia Reading Challenge which she is co-hosting. So it was fun to get to know the person behind all those interesting reviews and other posts on her blog. Her parcel totally hit me off guard, though. She totally nailed it and I love every single thing she send me. Let me show you what goodies she sent me.

When I got home only seven days after she told me she mailed the parcel and found this huge package in my mailbox I was totally flabbergasted.

 

Let's just say that I'm a genious that I thought about unpacking this outside on our garden table because there were little glitter hearts everywhere! Seriously, I still find them on the floor in my room although I thought I left them all outside. But don't mistake this for a complaint, because it was totally cute and who doesn't love glitter hearts? Now just imagine me with a huge grin on my face unpacking this. I really took my time because I was so happy about this georgous content.

I was actually really shocked by how much I loved this. Claudia managed to send me goodies that were totally my taste. I do not know how she figured I'd like this so much, but can I just say Claudia: You hit the bull's eye! One of my absolute favourite goodies in this parcel is the donut keychain! I love it!

   

MY FIRST PARCEL SENT TO THE US

I had a few problems with my parcel before I could mail it. Somehow I bought the wrong format for shipping to foreign countries and it got totally messy until I found an official package I could use. But yeah, everything worked out in the end so I'm really glad about that.

This was my first parcel and I felt a little nervous about it because I didn't know if Claudia would like the things I got for her. But in the end I decided to include the following goodies for her:
❥ Lovely Stickers in pastel colours
❥ A cute little notebook with an owl motif (because I adore owls)
❥ A wooden butterfly for her to choose her new favourite spot in the house
❥ Joss sticks with the scent of strawberries and sandalwood
❥ A Minnie Mouse Notepad
❥ A Magnetic Notepad for the fridge
❥ And next to some personal notes I included my favourite songtext by my favourite Swiss singer called Bastian Baker in the hopes that she might come to like a Swiss artist

If you haven't guessed yet, the theme was {Invigorating & New} & the color theme was {Pastels}. I really liked following this themes and now I think I'd do an even better job next time. And I know that there'll definitelly be a next time!

5 Dystopian Books I'm Dying To Read

Hey there. It's time for another 2016 Dystopia Reading Challenge Discussion Round (I haven't done one for quite a while, so I apologise for that and hope you'll enjoy this post!). Today I want to talk to you guys about one of my favourite subjects in the book world. Any guesses? Why yes, I'm talking about Dystopia (what else?). Here's a list of the top 5 Dystopian Books I really really want to read. Now, because there are obviously many more books on my tbr list, I narrowed them down to the ones that I currently obsess over in my head without having read them yet. Do you do that too or am I the only one who thinks about plots that I can't even really understand yet? Anyways, without further ado, here are my current Top 5!

5. The Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi

Why I'm interested in this series I've heard a lot about this series, good and bad, and I want to make my own opinion on these books. The premise sounds real interesting and I think this could be a real interesting story to read. Also it does not yet sound as if there would be the typical love-triangle involved in the story, but who knows. Maybe the boys just aren't mentioned yet. (I'm still hoping though that that will stay that way.)

4. The Matched Series by Ally Condie

Why I'm interested in this series This series has been on my TBR list for years now. A friend of mine even included it into her Finals' paper and she keeps pushing me to read it. I just haven't found the time yet, but one day I'll definitely read this series. The blurb sounds typical dystopian and kind of like the Divergent series, just with the slight difference that you don't choose your faction, but your love? Not sure if that's really true, but can't wait to find out.

3. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

	Why I'm interested in this series So many people have told me to read this series. I can't even believe that I didn't start it yet. It sounds a little too girly (not in an offensive way!) for my taste because I'm not that into books who talk a lot about dresses, make up and so on, but if it turns out anything similar to Rebel Belle I'll probably really enjoy it!

	Why I'm interested in this book Okay, have you read the summary? Then I don't think I have to explain any further why I want to read this book so bad! It sounds so awesome I can't believe it's been sitting on my shelves patiently waiting for me to grab it for a month now. I really have to get to it and start this one already!

Why I'm so excited about this book IT'S THE FINAL BOOK IN THE 5TH WAVE SERIES! Sorry, I just can't contain myself. I've been waiting for this book to come out for such a long time, I can't even think about anything else. This is by far my most anticipated new release in 2016! And now I'm just waiting for my order to get delivered to my house which I've preordered so many months before the publishing date. Those of you who haven't read a book in the 5th Wave series go and grab a copy and start reading! Seriously, this is my favourite dystopian series and I'm so sad about it ending. But still, I can't wait to finally figure out how it will end!

A Shadowhunters Week Finale

Hey there fellow Shadowhunters. MY ACHIEVEMENTS

So, about my ReadAThon... Originally I had planned to at least finish one book in the series. Sadly, I didn't. I got as far as 300 pages in City of Glass because I was so occupied with work that I didn't have any freetime to myself and my books. I'm a little disappointed in this, but well, I can't change it. I still had a really good time, though! I got to finally write my series review, some other fun posts and you know, it's not like I didn't read anything at all. Also, I began reading Tales of the Shadowhunting Academy (didn't get very far, though) and do you know what my Shadowhunter name would be? Yasmine Bluehood. I think that's a really cool name and I'm glad that I stumbled upon it. If you're also interested in doing so: Check out the book and the first two words that spring to your eyes on that page will make your name. So yeah, all in all I'm quite happy with this week and maybe in the future I'll do another theme week from another fandom and hope you'll join!

April Wrap Up

What a stressful month. I feel like all I've done in April was work, work, work. Oh and maybe train a little, but not much more. It's sad how little freetime I have at the moment and I hope that'll change soon, but at work we've got high season right now and I'm putting in so many extra hours. I feel so exhausted. None the less, I managed to finish three books this month. Also I think I've ever been to the cinema so often in such a short time. There are just too many good movies coming out this year and thank god did I purchase a membership at the cinema. This way I get cheaper entries.

April Movie Highlights

Hey there lovelies! Today I'm going to skip #ShadowhuntersWeek post because honestly I just haven't come up with a good idea what to tell you guys, and I don't want to just make up a post in a rush (I'm still reading for the ReadAThon though!). That's why I've got another treat for you. These are all the movies I've seen this month that I think are worth mentioning and I hope you'll enjoy my reviews! One other movie I've seen in April and I really loved is Allegiant which you can read my review of here. Hope you'll have a nice Friday and maybe you'll watch one of these movies in your local theatre tonight?!

My Review

I entered the cinema with a lot of hesitation. From the moment I first heard this movie was going to be planned I was a little concerned. Already in the comics I didn't like the idea behind this plot at all. And now on the big screen? Things could only go wrong... Or so I thought. The movie in fact was really great! Ben Affleck actually isn't that bad a Batman. Althogh I'm still and always will be Team Superman! Honestly, I do not like Henry Cavill's version of him at all though. Already Man of Steel didn't convince me at all. But the special effects in this movie were stunning! With today's 3D glasses I actually thought that the buildings were going to tumble down onto me and I really enjoyed the 4D effects from the seats in front of us that shook us, too.

Now, back to the movie. Although I don't like these adaptations of superheroes (I'm more of a Brandon Routh fangirl) I think the mix matched perfectly together. They just all seem a little harder and darker and I think that's what DC was looking for. More drama, more heartbreaks. Oh and how my heart was broken at the end of the movie. I cried for the entire last 20 minutes (silently, though I think some other cinema-goers noticed). And of course, what kind of superheroes movie would it be nowadays if it didn't end with a cliffhanger? I'm really excited about Wonder Woman! Finally she's getting her own movie, and hopefully they'll continue the story there? Because they can't just leave it as it is now!

My Review

Yes, I know this movie has been out for a while now, but hear me out. Somehow my country decided not to show this movie in the theatres? I have absolutely no idea why, but that's the reason I couldn't go watch The 5th Wave, which I'd been awaiting for such a long time in the cinema. So I had to wait until I could watch it online and this month I finally could. I really liked this adaptation although there were a few little things that bothered me. But that's always the case if you're a big fan of a book, right? Anyway, all in all it was greatly done! One of my favourite scenes of the book didn't make it into the movie, which was a little disappointing, but I can't change it right? I'm talking about one of the last chapters where Cassy and Ben are caught in the room with the mirror and Sammy is on the other side. And then Evan saves the day. Instead we get quite an awkward situation where Ben just gets to watch Evan and Cassy make out... Still not complaining, though.

This movie showed great potential and I really hope they're going to continue with the series. I want to know how they'll explain the whole 'alien' situation because they kind of screwed that part up. I mean, did the writers even consider the second book in the trilogy? Or did they just think they'd just take Book one and then go their own way...?

My Review

I don't even know where to start. This movie was so great and thrilling from the very beginning. I must confess that I didn't really enjoy The Huntsman and Snow White although I've seen it twice already (I think both times early this year). I got confused for a short while during the film because I thought it would be a prequel to the first movie, but instead it was kind of a mash-up. It started years before the happenings of Snow White when Eric played by Chris Hemsworth was still a kid and recruited by the Ice Queen. And then we were catapulted into the future after the story of Snow. When I realised this I felt bad for my friend who watched the movie with me because he hadn't seen the first movie yet, but for no reason at all. He could keep up with the contents and understood everything perfectly without needing more explaining. So you don't have to watch Snow White at all to understand Winter's War.

The storyline was quite intersting, although predictable at some points. I still enjoyed it, though, and I think those predictable moments actually gave the whole movie more tension. The ending was great! (But I'm not going to spoil you, so I'll just leave it there... All I'm gonna say is: I love it, when the "villain" of a story turns out to have a heart and actually really had good motives in the depths of her heart.) I wish I could rewatch this movie already. I'm definitely going to buy it on DVD. Oh and can I just add: I loved the gowns and gears the cast got to wear. Emily Blunt's warderobe was absolutely stunning! All her dresses looked so beautiful on her and I just keep dreaming of wearing such a gown one day.

We've reached Day #4 of my Shadowhunters Week. I do hope you guys are enjoying yourself as much as I am. As promised here's part II of my Shadowhunters Review. This post will be all about the cast and characters. If you're interested in reading my review about the episodes and show itself then head over to Part I. 

My Opinion on

Katherine McNamara - Clary Fray
From the moment I heard that Kat would be playing Clary I was very excited. To be honest, she looks exactly like I imagined Clary. I love how eager Kat is to do her role justice and although I noticed that she wasn't a very experienced actress before, I think she's doing a great job. You can already see how much she's evolved in season one and I think Kat will be able to really bloom in this role. As for Clary I'm still not quite sure if I actually like her or not in the show. Sometimes she just appears way too confused, hesitant or too direct for me to really like her. I can't wait to see what season two brings for her. I really love the fact, however, that she knows what she wants also does anything to get that (for example she's the one who initiated the kiss... just saying).

Dominic Sherwood - Jace Wayland
Confession: I wasn’t and still am not very happy with Dom as Jace. Do not get me wrong! I think Dom is a great actor and I like him a lot, but he’s not the Jace I imagined. Also, I think he just brings a natural hardness to the character that will make it difficult for him to show Jace’s soft sides and easily breakable heart… In my opinion, show Jace is way too aggressive. He doesn’t hesitate in blaming anyone and in quite the hurtful way and I’m not convinced by his act at all. I think Dom is doing his best and a great job at it, but I just don’t like this version of Jace.

Matthew Daddario - Alec Lightwood
MATT! Okay, where do I start? Is there even anything else to say than that Matt is absolutely gorgeous and perfect? Seriously, he’s the biggest reason for me to keep watching the show no matter what. He’s my sunshine. No, but really, I think Matt is the perfect Alec and I love his acting so much! It doesn’t hurt that now Alec has become my all-time favourite character in the Shadowhunter series (including the books). I think we’ve already seen Alec evolve so much during season one I wonder if there’s still anything left for season 2?

Emeraude Toubia - Isabelle Lightwood
How is it possible for a woman to be so perfect? I love Emeraude and her version of Isabelle and it’s the only one I can think of at all from now on. I love how she’s mature, beautiful and intelligent. Her willingness to sacrifice herself for her brother and how much she really loves Alec just softens my heart every time. We just all need to appreciate Emeraude so much more and I can’t believe that there were actually a lot of people who doubted her just because she’s Latina. I mean, come on, really?

Harry Shum Jr. - Magnus Bane
Who makes the absolute best facial expressions on the entire show? This guy! It cracks me up every single time and I just love pausing scenes with Magnus just to see what kind of face he’s making. I’ve been a big fan of Harry ever since Step Up because he’s an amazing dancer and seeing him in a role as Magnus just brings me so much joy (god is this post really going to be so cheesy for me to constantly keep using such phrases?). In the books I had some difficulties liking Magnus, but in the show he grew on me instantly and he has become one of my absolute favourite characters. But I still feel like he came on way too strong onto Alec.

Alberto Rosende - Simon Lewis
Simon has always been one of my favourites in the books and so I was a little concerned about his adaptation. But for no reason because Alberto just portrayed him so perfectly I can’t even remember how else I imagined Simon before. I think Alberto is a really great actor and for his first big role (I think?) he’s overdone himself and put a lot of the other actors in the background with his acting skills. He’s got so many different talents and I can’t wait for him to show us more. All in all, Simon is still in my top 5 characters on the show. I do think, though, that he could have become a vampire a little later on so that the writers could have explored his human nature first more thorough to the extent of making his transformation more dramatic.

Isaiha Mustafa - Lucian Graymark
If I could choose a god parent from the show I’d choose Isaiha without hesitating. He’s got all the qualities you’d want from an older friend / relative / guardian and he portrays Luke so great. We’ve seen different sides of Luke on the show and it has become clear that he carries more weight as a character than in the book and I’m really okay with that. I hope they will explore this even further in the second season.

Short recap of side characters

The character that surprised me the most was Raphael or better David Castro. Seriously, he’s too hot to be a vampire who can never feel warm or cold anymore. I really disliked him in the books, but in the show he’s such a great character! You can see that he actually cares what happens around him and to be honest I’m not that far away of shipping Saphael (Simon/Raphael)… I think Meliorn is a really interesting character and I want to see a lot more of him. Maybe as we’ll be introduced to the Seelie Queen next season, we’ll even meet more faeries. I distaste Camille so much (but I think Kaitlyn Leeb is doing a great job playing her), maybe even more so than Valentine. Which reminds me: does anybody else only see King Henry when Alan van Sprang appears on screen or is that just me? I can’t seem to shake my memories of Reign off. Max Lightwood played by Jack Fulton is just the cutest! It hurts me so bad knowing what should happen to him, but I mean they could change things in the show, right? I really like the fact that Maxim Roy and Kat actually look alike which makes it so much easier for me to like her role as Jocelyn. I wonder why they decided to wake her up so early already. Does that mean we’re not going to see Idris? I have become very fond of Lydia Branwell and hope to see Stephanie Bennett return as this character. This could be a possibility to explore more Shadowhunter families which I’d love to see! Not everything has to be as they were in the books. That’s the beauty of screen play. There’s so much more space to explore.
